History Dz Bank
The roots of DZ BANK can be traced to the cooperative banking system of the nineteenth century. To be specific, in the Preußische Zentralgenossenschaftskasse established of 1895. Preußische Zentralgenossenschaftskasse was later moved into “Deutsche Zentralgenossenschaftskasse” in 1932.
DG BANK’s functional predecessor saw their end after World War II by the Soviet occupying power then. Two new branches were opened in the American and the British occupied region. They were running until the foundation of Deutsche Genossenschaftskasse in May 1949.
The Deutsche Genossenschaftskasse was changed to DG BANK Deutsche Genossenschafts bank in 1976. Between 1985 and 1989 four regional co-operative central banks of Northern Germany, Hesse and Bavaria gave their ongoing banking business to DG BANK.
After the reunification of Germany in 1990 DG BANK reassumed central bank business for the eastern German co-operative banks and took over the central business functions of the former Bank fuer Landwirtschaft und Nahrungsgueterwirtschaft der DDR.
In 2001, DG Bank acquired GZ-Bank AG. The new institute was renamed DZ Bank AG Deutsche Zentral-Genossenschaftsbank.
