History of e-trade
William A. Porter and Bernard A. Newcomb founded the company TradePlus in 1982. With startup capital from TradePlus, in 1991 they started another firm, E-Trade Securities Inc. which offered its services via America Online and Compuserve. The company merged with and acquired other brokerage firms and it was renamed E-Trade Financial. It also later sold some of its divisions.
