History Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs Group was founded in 1869 by Marcus Goldman. He was later joined in 1882 by his son-in-law Samuel Sachs and in 1885 by his son Henry and son-in-law Ludwig Dreyfuss. The firm traded under the name Goldman, Sachs & Co.

The bank had a very modest beginning. They built their business by issuing commercial papers. They were ready to take retailers as investment banking clients when big firms like JP Morgan turned up their noses up at doing business with retail clients.

The big firms thought that investment banking should be limited to big Industries or corporation, on the other hand, the Goldman Sachs was willing to take that business and that sector of the economy grew rapidly over the years.

The Goldsman Sachs grew with their retail clients and branched out to other financial services for institutions, corporate clients
